Renato totally humored me by taking me to the fair this summer. It was really a great day for the weather - not too hot - and we got there really early so we even got a parking spot on the street and did not have to pay for parking.
Here I am with the Cat in the Hat. I only had to push a few small children out of the way to get my picture.
This was next to the animal exhibits. They had tons of baby animals, which surprised me since it was summer and not spring. They were also auctioning a lot of the animals - the kids that had raised them got to show the animal and then sell it.
We went through all of the exhibits and stalls. I got my ring cleaned. I registered to vote, and we got to vote for the Jr. exhibitors. Renato voted for a coin collection - just 'cause he likes coins. I loved the lego exhibits where the kids got to write a summary for their exhibit. One kid wrote all about how last year he could not do as much because his parents would not buy him the right legos, but this year they shelled out so he did better.
I talked Renato into watching the horse races. I was dying to see them. I know I know. I hate horses. It is true, but I wanted to see the race. Maybe I read too much Dick Francis, but I was so excited to see the race. They are pretty magnificent animals, just don't get close to one. We both picked our winners, and Renato was right. We could have had some good cash if we had actually bet on the horses. Do you think they would have paid out if we told them that we really did choose the winner?
The best part about any large gathering is the people watching. The fair did not disappoint! Of course while you are watching all of those people, someone must be watching you. We also had some fair food - deep fried of course.
All in all, a great time at the fair. I will definitely talk him into it again next year.
